A tastevin, also called a tasting cup, is used in oenology to examine, inspect, smell, and taste a wine. It is also a symbol of viticulture and the winemaking brotherhoods. The hollows and bumps in the tastevin increase the reflections of ambient light, allowing for analysis of the color of the wine being tasted. Today, it is no longer widely used for tasting; however, wine houses and restaurant chefs still use it, in France and internationally, primarily for inspecting wine.
This tastevin comes from a family of Beaujolais wine merchants.
