A tastevin, also called a tasting cup, allows to examine a wine, to look at it, smell it, and taste it. It is also one of the symbols of viticulture and the winemaking brotherhoods.
The hollows and bumps in the tastevin multiply the reflections of ambient light, which allows for the analysis of the color of the wine being tasted. To this day, it is no longer widely used in tasting; however, wine houses and restaurant chefs still use it, in France and internationally, primarily for looking at wine.
This attractive tastevin, presented in its original box, can be used at home to taste a wine or kept as part of a collection. Bearing the inscription “François 40 ans,” it comes from the Beaujolais wine region, where it is traditional to offer a tastevin for important birthdays.
