At the beginning of the 20th century, the distribution of electricity, the Fairy as it was then called, was just beginning in France. With access to it for only a few hours a day, the French, who were heavy coffee drinkers, used hand-operated grinders like this one, generally made of beechwood. All-metal versions appeared later.
The Peugeot brothers produced coffee grinders as early as 1840, long before embarking on the automobile adventure. Simple, robust, and quiet, they were a staple in every French kitchen.
In working order, this one, dating from 1935, would easily fit into a collection or take pride of place in a contemporary setting.
