Rosin, obtained by distilling pine resin, is used to improve the grip of bows on the strings of bowed instruments (violin, cello). Without rosin, the bow hairs slip, and the instrument produces almost no
sound! The Ader manufacturer closed its doors in 1976.
This box belonged to a grandmother who studied the violin in the 1920s and 1930s. Her rosin, untouched, was found in her instrument case after her death in 2000.
